MCFC and LMFT

While enrolled under the MCFC program the assumption is that you are preparing for the certification requirements and examination for becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Therefore, your field experience site supervisor must hold an LPC or LMFT credential. You will need to meet departmental requirements for relational hours as part of your program. MCFC students will be eligible to apply for LMFT or LPC in Texas, contingent on their designation at the time of Field Experience (due to relational hours needed for LMFT certification exam eligibility).

Quoted from the MCFC Handbook (Summer 2022) “Lamar University’s Master’s Degree in Education with a concentration in Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling (MCFC) integrates throughout the program a systems perspective (e.g., family, school, work, spiritual, etc.) for work with children, adolescents, families, and integrated care with community school partnerships. This concentration meets the coursework requirements for Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Marriage, Couple and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Texas and many other states.”
